Volleyball practices consistency

The Lady Busters relied on consistency as they hit the net this week, improving their record 14-4.
The women went for a double win, Saturday, Sept. 21. In the first match against Trinidad, the women won 35-33, 33-31, and 30-26. The women then went on to defeat Otero 30-17, 30-15, and 30-19.
The women defeated Colby by a narrow margin. In the first match, the Busters came up from behind to defeat the Trojans 30-19. In the second match, the Busters won 30-25. In the third match, the Busters were defeated by the Trojans 22-30. In the fourth match, the women were defeated by Colby 29-31, causing the teams to go into a fifth match. The Busters defeated Colby in the fifth match 15-13.
"Colby was a struggle, but the girls had to work through sickness," Jeff Sanders, head coach, said. "Hopefully by the [Wyobraska tournament, Sept. 26-28] the girls will be well."
The No. 18 Buster women were defeated by No. 9 Barton County, Sept. 11, with a score of 18-30, 30-28, 23-30, 16-30.
The Lady Busters were defeated in the semifinals of the Broncbuster Classic Volleyball Tournament, Sept. 14-15.
In the first round, Garden City defeated Colby 30-22, 30-21.
The Busters defeated Lamar in the second round, 30-24, 30-18.
The women defeated Air Force Prep in the third round. The scores for those matches were 30-15, 30-20.
In single elimination play, the women defeated Hutchinson 30-22, 30-23.
No. 18 Garden City suffered a loss against No. 13 Seward County for the second time in the semifinals of the tournament. The Saints beat the Busters 30-21, 30-22.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, the women competed at Clarendon, gaining another win. The women beat Clarendon 30-21, 30-10, and 30-17.
The next tournament will be the WyoBraska Tournament Sept. 26-28.
"Last year at this tournament we were 7-4," Sanders said. "This was our turning point. I believe we are a more advanced and a better team, so I know we can continue to improve. I want us to go 9-2 in the tournament."
For this tournament, the women have winning in mind.
"My goal is for us to win and to play to our full potential constantly," Jackie Spooner, outside hitter, Brush, Colo., said.
The women are looking toward consistency to help them improve.
"If we play consistently, we are good," Stormi Harvey, setter, Lubbock, Texas, said. "We need to focus on being consistent, but our chemistry is coming together."
Practice is said to be a key to winning.
"We play well at times, but at times we don't play well," Spooner said. "If we don't play well, we improve with practice."
The next tournament is Sept. 26-28 and the next regular season match is Oct. 2. The next home match for the women will be against McCook Community College, Oct. 7.
