Throughout the course of National Football League history there have been many players whom fans consider legends, and whose fame will live on forever.

One player who has written his own page in the history books is Emmitt Smith. With his 109 yards on 24 carries two weeks ago against Seattle, he became the NFL's all-time leading rusher.

The fourth quarter run, in which Smith gained 11 yards, gave him the all-time rushing record of 16,728 yards.

Smith beat Walter Payton's record of 16,726 yards. Smith began his career in Dallas in 1990, and in only 12 years, has become the NFL's all-time leading rusher.

The man Smith took the record from was nicknamed "Sweetness" for his aggressive, yet quick, running style. Walter Payton did not get to see his record broken; he died in 1999 from cancer.

Emmit Smith has become the greatest running back of all time, and the record he set will take a while, and an excellent running back, to break it. Smith's 12 -year career with the Cowboys has been filled with many other accomplishments. These accomplishments include the all-time record for rushing touchdowns at 150; Marcus Allen is second on this list with 123.

Smith also led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships in the'90s and was Super Bowl MVP in two of the Super Bowls.
