Meats Judging Team places sixth at Emporia, prepares for Beef Empire Days

The Broncbuster's Meats Judging Team took sixth place in their second competition for the semester at Emporia, November 2. The team's supervisor, Clint Alexander, was impressed with the team's overall performance.
"They all did pretty well and we increased our team's score by 80 points," Alexander said.
There were four students from GCCC among the 42 individuals that competed. According to the contest information sheet, Jeff Mai placed eleventh overall with a score of 904. Clinton Trickey placed seventeenth with a score of 873. Placing twenty- first was Krystal Jones with a score of 843 and placing twenty-fifth was April Oberheim with a score of 822. Besides the four competing team members, six other students went as alternates.
"I've seen a lot of improvement," Alexander said, "Our GCCC team is a tough team to beat."
The categories that the team judges in are beef grading, total beef, beef judging, pork judging, lamb judging, placings, and questions.
The meats judging team has one more competition this semester at the Beef Empire Days here in Garden City on Nov. 24 at which all the students will be competing. This coming spring, the team has three competitions: Denver on Jan. 19, Fortworth on Feb. 1, and Dallas on March 8.
