English faculty are now using an online computer program to evaluate students' exit essays. As part of a departmental requirement, students completed essays between Nov. 13-16 in the Academic Building. A final essay is required as well as the the exit essays for all Basic English and English I students.
"I think the exit essay is a great idea," Doris Meng, English instructor, said. "It is very effective for students, the online software measures the writing skills of students and informs instructors of where the student is at and if that student is good enough to move to the next level."
Students enrolled in Basic English and English I received instant evaluations of their exit essays from the online evaluation. Essays were evaluated for grammar, spelling, punctuation and other writing fundamentals.
