Garden City Community College officials are not commenting on a Feb. 8 incident in which nine Broncbuster athletes were involved in a fight following the Barton County Community College homecoming dance.

Coach Jon Rorabaugh, head track coach, said he could not comment on the case.

"It's confidential," he said.

Dennis Perryman, athletic director, had no official statement regarding the case.

According to the Feb. 21 issue of the Garden City Telegram, Barton County sheriff's deputy David Smith was on patrol when he saw the fight, radioed for backup and went to break up the fight.

Two Garden City athletes were transported to a Great Bend hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

The five Barton County athletes involved in the fight were suspended for one game.

In an official statement, Dr. Veldon Law, president of BCCC said that the students' coaches would deal with disciplinary actions. BCCC has concluded the investigation of the case, and further information will be dealt with by law enforcement.

"Barton County Community College's investigation regarding the incident that occurred on Saturday, Feb. 8, between various students has concluded, pending the outcome of any on-going law enforcement investigation," Law also said in the statement.

"Those students involved in student activities as athletes or in other student activity capacities, as part of the discipline recommendations, have taken into account the coaches/sponsors plans to deal with their respective students," Law said.

Officials from the Barton County Sheriff's Office and Barton County Attorney's office also said the case was confidential and failed to release an incident report.
