Bob Larson has done a lot to help the Buster football program become successful through the years. He has helped coach the team to a bowl game all four years that he has been head coach for the college and he has coached many All-American athletes.

Larson received recognition for his work in the February edition of "American Football Monthly" magazine as being named runner-up coach of the year for the college coaches category.

Larson said he was pleased with being nominated for the award, which was voted on by fellow coaches, but he was reluctant to take full credit for the award.

"It was an honor being nominated, but the award was not just for me," Larson said. "The lord blessed me with putting me around good people, the program, and what we've done over the years. I'm proud, grateful, and thankful."

The nomination came as a shock to Larson.

"I wasn't expecting to get nominated," Larson said. "It was a surprise."

To some of his co-workers, Larson's award was not a surprise.

"It was very deserving," Dennis Perryman, athletic director, said. "Bob's not only a great coach, but a great person. He's dedicated to the sport."

Perryman was also pleased with the nomination because he said Larson's time spent coaching and worrying about his team made him earn the nomination.

"Bob is a worrier," Perryman said. "He worries about kids, parents, and the program. He's a 24/7 guy. If you drive by the school at night, his car is likely to be in the parking lot. That's the reason he is successful. He has leadership qualities that a person would look for in a coach."

Along with it being an honor for Larson, Perryman said that it is a good way to get students to want to become a Broncbuster.

"Bob being nominated for the award gives good public relations," Perryman said. "It helps Garden City get recognized nationwide and it is also good for recruiting."
