The Board of Trustees voted 5-0 in favor of the completion of the Student Center atrium as planned March 19.

After adjusting their figures, D and D Building determined that the Student Center atrium is estimated at $260,000, a $6,000 increase.

Carol Ballantyne, college president, said that the college started fundraising and has done well. The board approved of the motion, and construction will go ahead as planned.

D and D Building said that they are possibly even a few days ahead of schedule in construction.

The Student Center is projected for completion on Sept. 25.

Ballantyne said the college would like to raise in-state tuition $3 per credit hour. Tuition has not been raised in two years. The increase would be middle of the road when compared to other colleges. Also, the board is looking into increasing the amount of book scholarships from $125 to $150.

The board is also looking to increase the cost of room and board $100. The increase would be the same as it was last year.

Hiep Nguyen, freshman treasurer, said that SGA has sent out 18 applications asking for funds from $280-$1000. Applications were sent to Red Cross, Big Brother Big Sister and Emmaus House among others.

Nguyen added that Casino Night is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, from 8-10:30 p.m. The event will be in the Student Center.

Ballantyne said GCCC is also in need of replacement vehicles. The board is currently considering the lowest bidder for their purchase, which is Burtis Motors. Other contenders are Western Motor Company, Lewis Motors and the state of Kansas.

Ballantyne said that GCCC has $60,000 budgeted for replacement vehicles. It is recommended that the college purchase one four-door sedan and two 15-passenger vans.

Presently, the college has two vehicles, a van and a car, that will be sold if the new vehicles are purchased.
