After the departure of head coach Earl Diddle, the Buster basketball team has lost their top assistant coach as well.
Brian Barone had the chance of being the next head basketball coach, but he was given the opportunity to be a recruiting coordinator as well as an assistant coach under Illinois State coach, Porter Moser.
Moser was an assistant coach when Barone played for Texas A&M.
Prior to coaching for the Busters, Barone was an assistant coach at Central Florida Community College, Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Champions for the 2001-2002 season.
"Brian Barone was and is an excellent young coach," Dennis Perryman, athletic director, said. "He has been given a tremendous opportunity at Illionois State University. We were hoping he would stay but it was too good of a position for him to turn down."
Perryman is still accepting applications for the head basketball coaching position.
"We are still status quo on a basketball coach," Perryman said. "We have started the interview process and should be finished next week with that. The committee will then make a decision."
