Welcome Back

Students gather to meet, eat

More than 300 students, staff members, faculty and administration from all over campus gathered in the campus mall Aug. 14 for the Welcome Back Picnic. "[We] just wanted to welcome back all students, staff and administration," Rachel Williams, director of food services, said. Those who attended the SGA- sponsored event enjoyed the clear skies and eating hamburgers and hotdogs.

College officials anticipate 'Grand Gala Opening' in December

As construction continues on the student center, the college is in the middle of preparations for furnishing the building. Bill Hammond, dean of administrative services, said he expects for the center to be ready for the "Grand Gala Opening" around the end of November. "The final coordination of the project, which will include the Follett Company [bookstore], Chartwells [snack bar], Garden City Community College Computer Services [computer lab] and the installation of furniture is all coming together," Hammond said. "We've been really happy about it."

'The Fantasticks' casting under way

Anybody who has had to deal with meddling parents should be able to relate to Garden City Community College's fall musical performance of "The Fantasticks". Written by a pair of college students in the late 1950s, the storyline involves the fathers of a young couple in love who concoct an extravagant plan meant to seal their children's relationship. The plan succeeds, then fails and chaos follows leaving the couple with a mess. A mix of humor and drama has made this musical a hit on stages across the world for over half a century.
