The state of Kansas is preparing to roll-out the red carpet for fair-goers from across the state. For those who are thinking about making the trip from Garden City, it will amount to a few expenses and a few hours on the road.
"I don't plan to go because I have to work," Matt Finkeldei, Holcomb, said, "but last time I went to the state fair, I had fun and really enjoyed it."
Hutchinson, home of the state fair, is a three-hour drive from Garden City. The drive to Hutchinson is approximately 175 miles. Ryan Friedricks, Marysville, said he doesn't plan to go because it is too far away.
Travelers can expect to pay approximately $28 for gas assuming that the average automobile gets about 20 miles per gallon. Brian Bailey, Hays, said he plans to go, but he only wants to spend fifty dollars.
Gates tickets are available online at www. kansasstatefair.com.
Adults tickets are $4, children's tickets ages six through 12 are $2 and senior citizen tickets are $3. Bigger savings will be available at the gate with a designated "Dollar Day" Monday, Sept. 8.
