Coming off a victory against Independence, the Busters look to feed off their new found momentum.

"I believe that the team is on the rise," Bob Larson, head coach, said, "The defense and special teams are with out question on the rise, the offense still needs to pull together though."

The next challenge for the Busters will be Fort Scott.

"Defensively, Fort Scott will probably do the same thing Independence did," Brian Hill, quarterback/wide receiver coach, said, "Limiting Andre Hall to just 52 yards doesn't happen everyday."

Larson knows that this game won't be a walk in the park.

"I think in 2001 we were ranked No. 1 in America," Larson said, "We went to their house and they came out and beat us. Our offense is going to have to control the line of scrimmage and the special teams are going to have to play mistake free."

Yamon Figurs has been a break out performer in the past couple games collecting 221 yards on just eight catches and two touchdowns.

"I think Yamon is making the typical adjustment," Hill said, "It's been a year and half since he has played because he redshirted last year, it's just taking him a while to make the transition."

Now that the Busters are starting to improve Yamon Figurs hopes the Busters start playing on the same page.

"When both the offense and defense start playing on the same page, we are going to be scary," Figurs said.

The Busters play Fort Scott Oct. 4.

Garden City went into Independence looking for a spark to ignite the offense. Yamon Figurs was that spark.

In the second quarter after Independence scored its first and only touchdown, Figurs took the ensuing kick off 81 yards for a touchdown.

"That was a huge impact," Bob Larson, head coach, said, "It was the turning point because we had just scored then we had to punt. After that Independence scored and the kick off return kind of ignited our defense."

Yamon Figurs had another terrific game adding four catches for 94 yards and a touchdown to his kick return.

"I think it just took me a while to get used to everything," Figurs said, "I'm just being real positive and trusting in myself."

After the kick return the Busters scored 23 unanswered points, only two in the second half.

"Offensively we still have to pull together," Larson said, "What I thought would work against their defense didn't work. It just comes down to coaching."

The Busters defeated Independence 37-7, winning their first game since Dodge.

GCCC vs. Butler County

The No. 1 team in the nation came to memorial stadium Sept. 20 and struggled with the unranked Busters.

"We didn't think that Butler had been pushed," Larson said, "The more times we are able to our thing, the better we become."

In the loss Yamon Figurs had a break out game with four catches 123 yards and a touchdown. His longest catch of the day was 75 yards for a touchdown putting the Busters up 7-0.

"I really thought that Figurs would have a break out game sooner," Larson said, "During the spring he was our go to guy. I guess his break out game came about a month later than I expected."

The Busters ended up losing 34-24.
