The Busters' first rodeo of the season at Colby was the first stepping stone of what first-year Head Coach Jim Boy Hash said looks to be a promising season.

According to Hash, the team had six members qualify for shortgo in seven different events.

"This is probably the best team [GCCC] has had here as long as I can remember," Hash said. "They're the most talented men and women teams that we've had since I've been here."

"It's the best we've done at a rodeo in a long time," Hash added.

Tony Rossi, bull rider, said he's excited about getting the season underway.

"I'm glad [the college rodeos] started," Rossi said. "Winter's coming on. All the rodeos over the summer are dying down. It doesn't bother me at all if I'm going to a college, amateur or a pro rodeo, as long as I'm going to a rodeo."

Rossi shares Hash's enthusiasm regarding the Busters' talent.

"I'm excited to see how good we can do," Rossi, who scored 69 points in qualifying for short go, said. "I just think we have a lot of talent. I just want to see what we can do in finals."

The Busters men finished ninth, scoring 40 points, while the women's team finished third overall.

"They did all right," Hash said. "It was exciting, it was fun for a rodeo, but I expect us to be better."

The rodeo team travels to NEO A&M for their next competition Oct. 2-4.
