After nearly two weeks without calls, another incident of telephone harassment was reported Oct. 14. Officials cite enhanced safety and security codes on voicemail boxes for limiting obscene calls.
"We are trying to control unwanted phone calls," Jack Rutherford, physical plant director said. "The security codes on voicemail boxes keep the caller from getting into the system."
"Only one call was received," Rutherford said. "Instead of sending group messages, the caller is only able to leave direct messages through one voicemail box."
According to Rutherford, the call received Oct. 14 should be traceable. Campus security is working with college personnel and the Garden City Police Department to track the call.
"The investigation is ongoing," Rutherford said. "When we have something we can report, we will do so."
The call received Oct. 14 is the 32nd call in a series of three sets of obscene telephone calls made by the same individual. The first set of 15 telephone calls were received Sept. 10-16. The second set of 16 telephone calls were received Sept. 24-25.
Campus security asks persons who receive harassing phone calls to archive the call immediately and forward it to extension 210.
Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation should call investigators at the Garden City Police Department at 276-1300 or Crime Stoppers at 275-7807.
