The Board of Trustees accepted a recommendation to purchase software and equipment from Datatel's Colleague System to use as the administrative database system Nov. 12.
The Database Conversion Leadership Team recommended that GCCC prepare for the training of employees to use the system as it develops.
Datatel has a 98 percent client retention rate, with a proven history of on-time and on-budget 18-month implementation plans.
Two bids were received for the purchase of hardware, including IBM Direct and Sysix. Although IBM Direct's bid of $48,498 was cheaper, the $48,993 bid from Sysix was accepted because the company will install the hardware and they have worked with Datatel in the past. The total cost for two servers, conversion assistance and service will be $65,741, plus travel costs.
D&D Builders, the construction company hired to build the student center, has asked for an extension that would push the completion date back into the first week of December.
Board members are concerned because the completion has already been pushed back several times, and they are considering options on how to deal with the situation.
According to Bill Hammond, dean of administration services, the college still intends to move the bookstore during Thanksgiving so students can return their books to the student center at the end of the semester.
Along with the student center, project design on the cooling loop is approximately 90 percent complete.
Ballantyne said if all goes well, construction could be completed as early as August.
"We're going to try the best we can to stay out of the students way [during construction]," Ballantyne said.
