Nearly 40 student musicians from throughout southwest Kansas are currently under rehearsal to present a public performance.
The band concert accompanied by an honors recital will take place Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building. Admission is free.
The honors recital will feature three select students: Christina Craig, Garden City; Sarah Foster, Garden City; and Sarah Forrest, Holcomb.
First-year GCCC Band Director James McAllister said the band will present a program selected from six major numbers.
The band debuted under McAllister's direction in December at the annual holiday season Vesper Concert.
The performance will include the following: Franz Schubert's "Overture in the Italian Style, Opus 170;" W. Francis McBeth's "Chant and Jublio," and Eric Whitacre's "Cloudburst." Other pieces include "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night," by Elliot Del Borgo; "Variations on a Korean Folk Song," by John Barnes Chance; and "Irish Tune from County Derry-Shepherd's Hay," by Percy Grainger.
