When Ryan Ruda became involved with the Student Government Association four years ago, he wanted to create a true leadership curriculum.
Ruda, a sponsor of SGA, said he was surprised to find a high standard of leadership already developed within the organization.
"The students involved in SGA are very committed to making there stay at GCCC a success," Ruda said. "They work hard to make SGA run effectively."
While Ruda has only been involved in the organization for a short period of time, he said SGA was created as an campus organization to represent the students.
"Student government was originally established as a voice and a kind of venue for students to express their views," Ruda said.
SGA exists as a prominent organization because of the students who are involved.
"The leadership and commitment students show have made it the organization it is today," Ruda said. "It's the students' belief in the college and in the organization that make it prominent."
Since Ruda has served as a sponsor to SGA, the organization has prompted campus involvement amongst other organizations.
"SGA has really grown as far as the number of campus organizations that work with student government," Ruda said. "Students and instructors both have developed and shown a concern for leadership themselves."
