It's morning, you look outside to see your neighbor planting flowers around a newly placed tree. Inside your little brother and sister are dressed in green carrying blue and green spheres. It's not Dr. Seuss day but Earth day.

Earth day was established in 1970 to celebrate the environment, promote the ideas of ecology, the study of the relationships between plants, animals and their environment, encourage respect for life on earth. Earth Day also brings out the concerns over pollution of our soil, air and water. It is now celebrated in more than 140 nations. GCCC will celebrate Earth Day April 27.

"It is important to have an overall awareness campaign [about conservation]," Ryan Ruda, Director of counseling and SGA advisor said

Throughout the day numerous activities will be going on. Student Government Association (SGA) elections will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Saffell Library to elect next school year's SGA officers. An Earth Day awards assembly and lunch will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.A talent show will be shown starting at 1 p.m. by the basketball courts to the west of the Beth Tedrow Student Center. All students and employees are eligible to participate in the talent show. Cash prizes will be awarded with first place getting $100, second receiving $75 and third with $50.
