The Student & Community Services Center is GCCC's new addition to the college located at 801 Campus Drive, south of the old admissions building. The Financial Aid, Counseling, Registrars, and Admissions office's are now located inside the three-story complex.

Instead of going through multiple doors, students had to go through one this fall with the opening of the Student and Community Services addition to the administration building.

What had previously been referred to as the Front Door during its inception and construction stages, the Student and Community Services building now houses admissions, registrar, financial aid and counseling on the main floor, which centralizes the enrollment process.

"Hopefully this is less stressful for the students, I say hopefully because I hope that we have done what we have set out to do," Nikki Geier, director of admissions, said.

For Lineth Contreras, Holcomb, the change has been for the better.

"I think that it is really great for students because now we don't have to run all over campus."

The building now provides enrollment services as well as space for adult education classes, and frees much needed classroom space in three other buildings.

"We are serving our students better because it's [enrollment process] only on one floor, and now classrooms can be returned back to the students," Beth Tedrow, dean of student services, said.

College officials are undecided as to how areas that have been vacated will be utilized.

"We are still undecided as to what is going to happen to the freed up spaces, but we do know that we need more room for the nursing program," Carol Ballantyne, president, said.

"Being a new student, it helped me out a lot because I had heard in the past that everything was scattered around, I didn't have to ask everyone 'well which building is that in?' It's very helpful," Julia Herrera, Garden City, said.
