Garden City commissioners approved a smoking ban that will take effect Jan. 8, 2007. The ordinance will affect campus smoking policies as well.

Garden City commissioners approved a smoking ban that will take effect Jan. 8, 2007. The ordinance will affect campus smoking policies as well.

Forensics and Debate

The 2006-2007 Forensics and Debate officers are as follows: President, Lake Battles, Club Reporter, Sarah Staats, and SGA Representative, Eron Lira. Forensics meets Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 in Joyce 1037. Debate meets on Wednesday and Fridays from 3:30-4:30 in Joyce 1037. We have several tournaments slated for this year.

Two students still await notification of whether or not they advance from the rounds of competition at the UN last spring to the world conference to be held in Switzerland this year. These students are Bryce Friesen and Andrew Moorman. Friesen and Moorman are also slated to represent GCCC at Harvard's debate tournament in late October. GCCC F&D is proud to announce the completion of yet another summer academy. Participants attended several hours of classes to prepare for the upcoming year of completion and spent time in team building activities at Table Rock Lake.

Choir Club

Choir club meets as a class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 to 11:55a.m. You must be enrolled in Choir or College Singers in order to be in Choir Club. They will be electing a President, Vice President and a SGA representative and alternate. The first events were auditions for College Singers and for the musical Sweeney Todd. They will be performing at the opening ceremony of the new building. They are also working on music for our Christmas Vespers and Valentine concert. Anyone interested in being a part of the Choir Club should contact Mr. Wright in the Fine Arts Building. Scholarships are available for choir members.

Block and Bridle Club

The Block and Bridle club had their first meeting Tuesday August 29. Meetings will be every other Tuesday after that for the fall semester. Officers were elected at the first meeting. Meeting times for the spring will be announced in January. Officers and members will be able to attend the 87 National Block and Bridle Convention, January 25-28 in Orlando, Fla. Activities for this year include: Endowment Phoneathon, Endowment Auction Catering, Ag Olympics and various fund-raisers to attend the National convention.
