Seward County Community College and GCCC will be hosting a Respiratory Therapy Information/Advising Meeting in the small dining room at the Beth Tedrow Student Center on Sept. 7, 2006 from 4-5 p.m.

Hosting the event will be Ed Anderson from SCCC.

The Respiratory Therapy program is part of the new Interactive Distance Learning program formed between the colleges of Colby, Seward, Dodge, and Garden. It creates the ability for students in Garden City to take the Respiratory Therapy program at Garden over the Internet-connected classroom and receive their degree from Seward.

"It's for students who are thinking about healthcare or those who haven't been able to set a career goal," Judy Crymble, dean of technical education, said. "This is a great opportunity for a high-paying career."

Students who are attending the event are under no obligation to join the program.

"This meeting will help them learn more about how to prepare for a rewarding career," Crymble said.

Average annual job openings for Respiratory Therapy Technicians are expected to be 100 just in Kansas alone, according to the Kansas Respiratory Care Society.

"Part of the reason is that the Baby Boomers are retiring and in healthcare we are going to need someone to take care of our retirees," Crymble said.

Attendees will be shown the benefits of beginning a career in Respiratory Therapy and will be given specific details about what courses they may need to take and other requirements.

For more information or any questions call Judy Crymble at 620-276-9521.
