In keeping with the spirit of his nationally syndicated program, Clay Jenkinson will engage audience members Sept. 18 in the tradition of Thomas Jefferson. Jenkinson, a humanities scholar and author, adopts the persona of Jefferson each week for "The Thomas Jefferson Hour."

"We thought it would be great to have Clay Jenkinson come to campus for Constitution Day," Mark Jarmer, forensics and debate coach, said. "He's really interesting to hear speak about contemporary issues."

Sept. 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. This day commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution. Colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to host an educational program on or near Sept. 17 each year.

GCCC's observation includes two programs by Jenkinson. The first program will begin at 11 a.m. in the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex.

A second program begins at 7:30 p.m. During each, Jenkinson will cover topics of substance such as politics, the war in Iraq, Osama Bin Laden, as well as taking questions from the audience.

Students, faculty, and staff may attend the program free with a valid college ID, general admission is $6. Children 12 and under may attend free.

Jenkinson, a nationally known radio talk show host, has performed his programs for the president as well as other government officials.
