The cosmetology program has recently received a package kit for all students.

Every student enrolled in cosmetology was required to have paid $1,500 before receiving the kit. The cosmetology instructor received the kits at the end of August, but students were not given the kits to open unitl all had paid the $1,500 fee.

This kit is consisted of materials for various projects. It contains products to do haircuts, hairstyles, facials, manicures, and pedicures. In the kit were cutting sheers, three curling irons, one flat iron, a blow dryer, capes, brushes, picks, combs, and butterfly clips. They also received five manikin heads to demonstrate and practice on. Every item received was from the brand Mariana.

"It's tremendous; the ultimate, everything in this kit is an updated series of everything I didn't have," Mia Horn, cosmetology instructor, said.

The kit also provided them with eight books, which six were for hairstyles and hair colors and two books are to help them prepare for the state board exams.

The kit was filled with all basic materials for the students to go to work after they complete the course.

"It's awesome, there was so much stuff in these kits," Teresa Gasseling, Johnson Kan., said. "You don't even have to use all these materials, so that means when you get out into the real world you have all this material, and new stuff to work with."

The cosmetology program already has the kit ordered for next year. If the Mariana brand comes up with new updated material from now until next August it will be updated in the kit.

After students opened their kits, they began preparing for clients by practicing the hands on procedures with their peers.

"My favorite thing to do is color hair which is probably the hardest thing to do," Gasseling said. "My favorite hair-cut to give is layers with a razor."

After 1,000 hours of the cosmetology program, students will be capable of taking the written state test. After completing the 1,500 hours of the program they will be able to take the practical test.

The practical test is everything the student learned throughout the cosmetology program. Students will be given a certain time to perform what they have learned and will be graded on how well the performance was carried out.
