The Busters had a break in the action last weekend, after falling to conference foe Butler 29-7. In the Sept 2. loss to the Grizzlies, the Buster offense managed only 36 rushing yards and 210 yards total. The defense was on the field for 75 snaps, several coming after allowing the Grizzlies to convert 50 percent of their third-down attempts.
With the loss behind them, the Busters are looking forward to hosting the Conqs.
"We're looking forward to bringing our spirit up from last week," Raymond Mitchell, Wichita, Kan., said. "Dodge City's our big rival and we want to blast them."
Coach J.J. Eckert says the team is relatively healthy and has had a great week of practice.
After a scrimmage and two games on the
road, Eckert says it's good to be back home.
"It's nice to be at home and to play in front of the best fans in the Jayhawk Conference," Eckert said.
Dodge City lost to Butler last weekend 31-21, dropping them to 0-2 overall. Last year, the Busters found themselves down 14-0 at halftime in Dodge, but rallied to a 30-22 victory.
"We're excited, we're going to let them know whose house it is," Oga Faumui, Auburn, Wash., said.
Fans are invited to come out to Memorial Stadium early for a tailgate party from 5-6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Broncbuster Athletic Association, American State Bank, and the Garden City Telegram. The tailgate party is $3 per person. Kickoff follows at 7 p.m.
