When the Hutchinson Blue Dragons stepped foot onto Memorial Stadium last season, they were stormed by the Broncbusters 50-14.

History repeated itself Saturday, as the Busters held the struggling Blue Dragons to 121 yards in offense, en route to a 35-9 victory on Homecoming night.

"We played really well defensively, not giving up big plays, and we had an unbelievably passing game," Head coach J.J. Eckert, said.

The Buster defense held the Dragon passing game to only 21 yards on the night, with three sacks for a loss of 26 yards. The Busters had 91 tackles, compared to the Dragons' 54.

"[Tyson] Kirksey had 16 tackles, [J.R.] Bryant had 15 tackles, and Dustin Spears also had a big game for us," Eckert said.

The Busters held the Dragons out of the end zone in the first half, but the Dragons were unable to do the same. Sean Setzer, Portland, Ore., got the Busters on the board first with a touchdown run from one yard out with 9:02 left in the first quarter. With 13:16 left in the second quarter, Jeff Blanchard, West Palm Beach, Fla., scored one of his two touchdowns of the night to extend the lead 14-0. Before the break, Setzer completed two touchdown passes, a 5-yard pass to J.J. Ford, Garden City, and a 10-yard pass to Eldred King, Thomaston, Ga., to build the lead to 28-0. The Blue Dragons scored their only points in the third quarter, with a 37-yard Brit Erikson field goal with 2:53 left in the quarter, followed by an interception returned for a 34-yard touchdown by Donnell Moore with 43 seconds left. A Blanchard 2-yard touchdown run was the only score for the Busters in the second half, but the Busters prevailed 35-9.

"Offensively, we played well in the first half, but there are things we need to overcome for us to play better in the second half," Eckert said.

The Busters racked up 409 yards in offense, 244 coming from Setzer, who completed 20 of 29 passes for two touchdowns and one interception. Adam Conway, Osborn, Kan., had four receptions for 62 yards. Ford also had four receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown. Blanchard finished with 24 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns for his second consecutive 100-yard performance.
