The Continuing Education and Community Services division has developed a series of introductory art classes and designated October "Art month."
"October was convenient for people," Diana Machotka, community services director, said. "If they wanted to make something for Christmas they would have enough time, it's just convenient for everyone."
Machotka said she and Nancy Harness, associate dean of CECS, came up with the idea and have scheduled classes that include jewelry, scent creations, collage, photography, knitting and clay making. The classes will be taught by specialized instructors and are open to the community.
"Working in partnership with the Art Center on Main, we are able to offer fun and exciting art classes," Machotka said. "This is the first time we ever had an official art month and hopefully we will be able to offer something similar in the spring. Anyone can participate. We offer a lot of beginner level classes that are introductory except for knitting. We get most of our people from the community."
Art month classes began Thursday, Oct. 5 and will continue through Saturday, Oct. 28.
For more information, dates and times, contact Machotka at 275-3232.
