Debate students defeated Yale and New York University at Harvard University invitation Oct. 6-7.
Andrew Moorman, Garden City, and Bryce Friesen, Great Bend, represented GCCC at the Harvard Parliamentary Debate tournament competing in open division against approximately 125 teams from all of the Ivy League schools.
"It was [intimidating] thinking they're smarter and more experienced," Andrew Moorman, Garden City, said. "They [Harvard invitational] were our tune up team. Our first tournament to compete with this year since we haven't been in a tournament since April."
Moorman and Friesen dropped a couple of controversial rounds but triumphed against Yale and New York University.
"A controversial decision is a decision which is controversial among other judges." Mark Jarmer, debate coach said. "Sometimes you have a panel of judges and these judges often disagree over who won or lost any particular round."
Jarmer said he was pleased with Friesen and Moorman at Harvard University.
"They represented GCCC well at one of the toughest tournaments in the nation," Jarmer said.
