Approximately 40 college employees participated in the YMCA's annual Corporate Cup Challenge, which began Sept. 26 and ended Oct. 14 with the college's team taking sixth place in its division. The event draws teams from the YMCA, Wal-Mart, the school district as well as other local businesses.
"It's something we put together to promote teamwork in companies for area businesses," Stacy Crase, YMCA fitness director, said.
GCCC employees Jessica Glaze and Lynn Ballinger served as co-captains of the college's team.
"The way it works is that the more people that sign up for an activity, the more points you get for winning," Glaze said. "We have fun and good participation."
The list of activities included a road rally, darts, wiffle ball, bowling, mini golf, human foosball, duck soup softball, pool, Texas hold 'em, kickball, bowling, basketball, punt, pass, and kick, 4-on-4 football, bocci ball, water polo, shuffleboard, horseshoes, inner tube relay, tug-o-war, indoor volleyball, racquetball, beach ball volleyball, dodge ball, two mile walk/run.
Glaze said softball, volleyball and shuffleboard were among the favorite events for the college's team.
"We have a great time," Glaze said. "It's a great way to get to know people and we hope we have more participation in the future."
First place in large division was USD 457, second was Finney County, third was Wal-Mart, fourth was Kearny County Hospital, fifth place was St. Catherine Hospital, and GCCC came in sixth place. In the small division the YMCA placed first, second place was Home Depot, third was Kennedy & Coe and Farm Credit, fourth place Q97 FM and Aquila, fifth place was Western Uniform and Tatro.
