Due to the men and women suffering from injuries and hectic tournament schedules, the men dropped from first in the conference to second and the women from third to sixth.

"We were pretty beat up, we're not machines, we're human beings," Jeff Huffman, head soccer coach, said.

The Lady Busters hosted Neosho County Sept. 28. Last year, Neosho County overwhelmed the Lady Busters, shutting them out 7-0. This year, Neosho County won again 3-1, and the loss dropped the Lady Busters to fourth place in conference standings.

After a little more than a week layoff the Lady Busters hosted Hutchinson Oct. 9. The Lady Dragons overpowered the Lady Busters by scoring 2 goals in each half on way to a 4-0 shutout. The game did not count toward the conference record because the two teams met earlier in the season.

After two straight home games, the Lady Buster hit the road to Dodge City Oct. 10. A quick goal was all Dodge needed to get going as they shut out the Lady Busters 5-0. The loss and Dodge City's one more win in the conference dropped the Lady Busters from fourth to sixth place.

"This Dodge game was unexpected," Huffman said. "Our bodies weren't fully recovered."

The Buster men dropped to second place in the conference after falling to Neosho County 2-1 Sept. 28. The Busters then rebounded and took out their frustrations on Western, Neb., Sept. 30, in a 3-1 victory.

The Busters were soon plagued with injuries when Bryan Arruda, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, the team's leading scorer left halfway through the Laramie, Wyo. game with a hamstring injury Oct. 1. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Garden City hit the road to Texas for a three game tournament in Richland Oct. 5-8.

With a opening round game against San Jacinto, Texas, the No. 5 ranked team in the country, the Busters fell 2-1. Teams only appeared to get better as the Busters' next opponent was Tyler, Texas., the No. 4 ranked team, in which the Busters were shut out 2-0. The finale of the tourney was Richland, Texas, the No. 3 ranked team in Division III NJCAA. The Busters were shutout 3-0, thus leaving them 0-3 for the tournament.

After the Texas road trip, the Busters returned home for a match-up against Dodge City Oct. 10. The Red Demons beat the Busters 2-0. The losing streak continued as the Busters fell 5-1 to Northern Oklahoma, Oct. 15 at Memorial Stadium, their last regular season game. The Busters have lost five straight and remain in second place in the conference with a 7-8-1 record.

"The good thing is it doesn't effect our regional standings," Huffman said. "It has been a very tough season."
