Rodeo teams ride high in regional standings

After two rodeos the Broncbuster men and women are both in good shape in the regional standings. The men's team is sitting in third place behind Panhandle State and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The women sit in fifth but are only 50 points away from second.
"Both of the rodeo team's will hold their own this year," head rodeo coach Jim "Jim Boy" Hash said. "All of our new people were pretty nervous, but it wasn't a terrible rodeo."
Performances by several members of the men's team led them to a 4th place finish at the Colby rodeo Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Cort Scheer finished third place in saddle bronc long go, second in short go, second in average, second in long go steer wrestling, fourth in short go, and second in average. Zach Perkin, Pomona, Kan., finished sixth in long go bullriding and was bucked off in short go where there was only one qualified ride. Perkin finished seventh in the average. Weslee Wilson, Arthur, Neb., placed tenth in the long go of barrel racing and eight in the short go placing him in eighth in the average.
The women's team brought home a third place finish as a team with several outstanding performances.
Jamie Elwood, Oberlin, Kan., led the women's team with a first place finish in long go barrel racing and third in short go giving her first in the average. Lori Tierney, Broken Bow, Neb., finished eighth in long go of goat tying, sixth in short go, placing her sixth in the average.
With not even a week of rest under their belts the Buster rodeo team traveled to Pratt Oct. 6-8.
The men's team brought home a third place finish as a team and the women sixth.
Cort Scheer won the all around cowboy title for the weekend.
Scheer finished sixth in long go of tie down roping, fifth place in short go, fifth in the average, sixth in the long go of saddle bronc riding, first in the short go with a 82 point ride, first in the average, first place in long go of steer wrestling, fourth in short go, and fourth in the average. Josh Harmon, Golden, Colo., finished tenth in long go of bareback riding and was bucked off in short go. Harmon finished tenth in the average. Justin Keith, Allen, Kan., and J.R. Williams, Lakin, Kan., teamed up for a fourth place finish in the team roping in the long go and second in the short go placing them second in the average.
Elwood had another strong showing in barrel racing finishing second in the long go and third in the short go placing her second in the average. Lori Tierney finished tenth in the short go breakaway roping, but missed the calf in short go placing her tenth in the average.
"The kids did settle down and relax from Colby to Pratt, so I don't think they were as nervous," Hash said.
The Busters next rodeo will be Nov. 9-11 at Alva, Okla.

Good story but Weslee Wilson is a female and only females barrel race.
