Risks are all around us. It's a reality we are faced with on a daily basis. Some accept the fact, yet many are stuck in a state of denial, which normally just leads to bigger problems.

No matter who you are you can't be afraid to take risks.

Whether the risk is finding love, demanding respect, finding a new job, or reconnecting with a long lost friend, we must TAKE THE RISK that we know in our hearts we need to take.

We sat and listened to keynote speaker Harlan Cohen, who along with being an author, musician, and public speaker has also worked as a college newspaper writer, an intern at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and is a respected syndicated advice columnist. We grasped the importance of taking risks. A realization we feel everyone should come to.

Reaching out of your norm leads to the possibility that something unpleasant or unwelcome will happen, but who is to say the roles wouldn't reverse.

If we take risks and fail, we will obviously feel bad, but isn't that better than to have never taken the risk, always living our lives wondering "what if?"

Although for some it may be hard to take the leap and talk to their secret crush, chase their dream, or simply raise their hand in class. The simplest way to get over this is to not think so much. Keep it simple.

As we grow older our minds grow more complex. So we over analyze everything to death, rather than just taking the leap. Lets compare ourselves, to a human in one of it's simplest forms.

A baby doesn't worry about what will happen to him, when he feels the urge to do something he does it whenever and wherever. They take the risk of walking on their own and fall numerous times, but their persistence is something we should all admire because they all eventually get it down.

Also, they aren't afraid to be helped, and don't worry about looking stupid. There are always people to help them, such as parents, and older siblings.

And whether we realize it or not we also have those same supports to help us succeed, and console us when we fail. Such as parents, friends, siblings, and instructors.

Not everyone you like will always like you. You will not always succeed but we must all at least take the risk to find out what will happen and stop living our lives with regret.
