Team play: J.R. Williams, Lakin, Kan., and Justin Keith, Allen, Kan., run through a team roping drill at practice Nov. 8. The rodeo teams competed in Alva, Okla., Nov. 9-11, concluding their fall schedule.

The Broncbuster rodeo teams completed their fall competition last weekend at Alva, Okla. The men's team finished with 55 points, while the women's team didn't score any points.

"The teams really didn't do that bad, we just had lots of bad luck on our side," Jim "Jim Boy" Hash, head rodeo coach said.

Zach Perkin, Pomona, Kan., made the short go in Bareback riding finishing seventh, and ninth in the long go, placing him seventh in the average. David Witcher, Canadian, Texas, made the short go in calf roping with a second place finish and a fifth place finish in the long go placing him second in the average. Cort Scheer, Elsmere, Neb., finished sixth in the short go of Saddle Bronc Riding and tenth in the long go, placing him seventh in the average. Cody Pratt, Monte Vista, Colo., made the short go of steer wrestling with a second place finish in the long go and seventh in the short go. Pratt placed seventh in the average.

Lori Tierney, Broken Bow, Neb., was the only woman rider to qualify for the short go. Tierney finished seventh in the long go of goat tying and eighth in the short go placing her eighth in the average.

Hash said he personally doesn't gripe about the judging but says it hurt their outcome this weekend.

"I feel like the judges did a poor job this weekend and it hurt us," Hash said.

The men's team is currently sitting in fifth place in the Central Plains Region with 721.5 points. Panhandle State University is leading at 2,069.5. The women's team sits in sixth place in the Central Plains Region with 320.5 points. Northwestern Oklahoma State University leads with 680.5.

"I want both teams to be strong contenders in the overall standings and have a shot at winning a team championship," Tierney said.

The Buster rodeo teams will open their spring schedule, February 23-25, 2007 at Kansas State University. Scheer said the team is doing all right but could do better.

"Everybody is focusing on what need to get done, so during the spring we have a shot of getting those things accomplished," Scheer said.
