Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback is creating a committee to help him campaign in several states over the next month to begin launching a bid as the Republican presidential nomination of 2008.

Raised as a protestant and a recent convert to Roman Catholicism, Brownback has said he plans to make "issues of life," including gay marriage, abortion, and stem cell research.

Brownback has served in the U.S. Senate since 1996 and has tough competition against well-known names such as Arizona Senator John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudolf Giuliani.

Brownback recently announced 20 members of his committee. The committee is a variety of anti-abortion activits, a former baseball commissioner, Rev. Frank Pavone, and the founder of Domino's Pizza.

Despite openly discussing his thoughts on attempting to be a presidential candidate he has had some difficulties creating a national profile pleasing to the public.
