Rocky V came out when I was three years old, but I still grew up with the movies, watching more than my share of Rocky marathons on cable. Now whether you like or dislike this movie depends on whether you are a fan of Rocky as a character. Or if you like Rocky for the fight scenes. If you're favorite is I or II, then you will love this movie. If you're favorite is one of the others than it can go either way.
Also, it would be beneficial to have seen all of the previous Rocky movies, because a bunch of forgotten characters make appearances. Like Spider, the fighter Rocky is fighting in the opening scenes of Rocky I in the run down club for a split of 100 dollars. Or more noticeably little Marie who Rocky walked home in Rocky I, is now all grown up with a son. We see a friendship develop between the two that might develop into a romance. Since Rocky's wife Adrian passed away of lung cancer.
This isn't really a boxing movie it is a movie about getting old and dealing with it. Rocky's way is to get back into the ring. This is sparked by a simulated computer game fight, that has Rocky beating the current champ.
Being as corny as the other movies this one has the most unrealistic storyline ever written. I went into the movie with the worst expectations. But once you're a Rocky fan you're always a Rocky fan. And once the training began and that old familiar sound of horns come ringing off the screen blaring the Rocky theme we all know, you're heart races a bit. This, like all Rocky movies is inspirational, if you put your guard down, ignore the corniness of it and let it take you for the Rocky rollercoaster ride we've all been on before.
