The GCCC Continuing Education and Community Services Division is hosting a series of five cooking classes for Southwest Kansas residents.
The first in the series, Touche', will be conducted from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 13 and 20 at the Penka Building on campus. The two-session, hands-on workshop is designed to show participants how to safely and efficiently slice, dice and julienne various foods using minimal equipment. The class will also learn how to sharpen knives and maintain an edge with steel.
Instructor Tina Cole said participants should bring their favorite kitchen and chef's knives. The cost is $35 per person.
Let's Saute will be conducted from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 27. The evening is designed for cooks who want to learn how to prepare quick meals with ingredients on hand in most kitchens.
"Bring an appetite and a few take-home containers," Cole said.
The cost is $30 per person.
Cole graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. She is commonly known in Southwest Kansas as the Bread Lady.
Scheduled soon are Cold Soups, planned March 13, and Cooking With Herbs, set for March 27. Succulent Seafood is scheduled for April.
Information and registration are available by contacting Christine Siebert at christine.siebert@gcccks.edu.
