The fiscal & physical resources committee discussed and finalized the smoking ban ordinance Thursday, Feb. 1.

Each building was reviewed relating to the smoking ban ordinance and has a recommendation that all buildings on campus be marked with 'no smoking within 50 feet' signs.

Some buildings have designated doors where smoking will be allowed.

"[These doors were chosen] because they were not primary entrance doors," Barb Larson, committee member and accomodations coordinator, said. "A primary entrance is something that the public uses. It's just a recommendation. It went to the president's cabinet and they made the decision. I don't know when it will go into effect."

It is recommended that the decal signs be posted on one entrance side and one exit side of each entrance.

The following buildings could have a designated entrance where smoking might be allowed.

• Annex: One possible door located on the Northwest corner.

• Maintenance: One possible door located on the Northwest corner.

• Vocational: One possible door at the Southwest corner and one possible door at the Northwest corner.

• Beth Tedrow Student Center: One possible door located on the Southwest side, exit from the snack bar.

• Residential Life Dorms: One door at ground level on the North end of each dorm building.

The committee also recommends where possible that smoking ashtrays and benches be moved the required distance from entrances at an aesthetically pleasing location and one that will be convenient for grounds maintenance.
